Paintings from Starlight & Storm Residency
The exhibition this month at Bainbridge Arts & Crafts Gallery includes a selection of 5” x 5” watercolors from my time in Norway for my 2022 artist-in-residency with Starlight and Storm. Located on the island of Arnøya at 70 degrees N. Singla is a historic waterfront homestead that includes a small lighthouse, boathouse, barn, main house, and assorted outbuildings. I loved watching the water with its constantly changing light and observing the contours of the mountainous islands. During the residency, I completed a series of twelve 5” x 5” watercolors inspired by the landscape, seven of which are on display in Winslow through November 2nd. The originals are available for sale, and I am hoping to offer prints soon!

These are beautiful, Maria! You’ve caught the experience of being outside when the light is complicated and shifting, and there’s no way to hold on to and keep looking at any one particular moment. Except there is, in these paintings.
Yet there’s also a sense of inherent movement and change (which I don’t get from photographs).

Thank you, Trina! I tried to create little windows to special moments in time.
