Last week I gave a field sketching workshop to a group of 45 University of Washington Natural History students taught by Tim Billo. We met in one of my favorite spots in Seattle, the Union Bay Natural Area (also known as the Montlake Fill). It’s a wetland that’s been restored from its previous use as a garbage dump, and now is a beautiful hotspot for local and migratory birds. It was great fun teaching my favorite tools for observation to the students and seeing what they took time to sketch independently.
