I taught my first series of workshops today for my Islandwoodartist-in-residency. Islandwood is a marvelous outdoor learning center and they invited me here to offer visiting 5th grade students nature journaling workshops. I’m meeting with groups of 8-12 students and over the course of two hours, the students are making simple accordion nature journals, then sketching out doors with ink and watercolor media. My workshops today were a success and I am particularly impressed with the students’ clear focus. Thanks to everyone I’ve met who’s made my stay here so enjoyable, and special thanks to arts coordinator Jessica Henderson for the residency invitation.
