The Portels are a marvelous pass in between the Sholes and Rainbow glaciers on the north side of Mt. Baker. I was out with a glacier monitoring team and we paused for lunch on the warm, sun-bathed rocks before heading out into what rapidly became white-out conditions. (Mountain weather can change quickly!)
