I joined the North Cascades Research Project in 2007 to monitor glaciers in the North Cascades, Washington. We hiked in to Mt. Baker from Artist Point, traversing along Ptarmigan Ridge enroute to Camp Kaiser which would be our base camp for monitoring the Sholes glacier and Rainbow glaciers. From Ptarmigan Ridge, I looked out over the next ridge and was captivated by the patterns of rock and ice.
