This is the view from the front porch of the lovely  Upernavik Museum Refugium in NW Greenland. I lived in Upernavik for seven weeks from May to June 2005 where I witnessed and painted the transition from spring into summer. Located on the outskirts of town on the small island, I could survey both the ice and the goings on. Sharing this painting with locals was always fun, “Oh!” They’d exclaim, “I live in the blue house next to the red house above the big yellow house.” The cheerful colors must help in winter when the environment’s palette is subdued.
