Arch Passing By

Choose size

I spent 7 weeks as artist-in-residence with the Upernavik Museum in NW Greenland. They gave me a lovely little red house out on the water and I spent hours on rocky shore (intermittently basking in the sun or bundling up in my down jacket) captivated by the ephemeral light and changing ice. One sunny day, I noticed this arch iceberg floating by. I’d never seen an arch like this before! I ran for my art materials and sketched as quickly as possible. The iceberg was pulled rapidly by the currents and I noted the light and shadows before it floated behind an island. I caught my breath as I completed my painting and my watercolor quickly dried in the sunlight.
