This painting, completed in 2007, is inspired by my visit to Summit Station located in the middle of the Greenland Icecap. The 109th US Airguard flies C-130 aircraft equipped with skis as well as rockets for an extra boost to take off from the ice. The National Science Foundation generously granted me permission to visit and I was delighted by the opportunity to paint in the stark, cold environment.
