Ice Floes, Baffin Bay, 21″ x 40″ watercolor

Northern landscapes are on my mind as I’ve been developing Imaging the Arctic paintings in my studio. My latest painting is my largest panorama yet, a 40″ wide aerial view of ice floes inspired by flying over Baffin Bay searching for narwhals. The abstract shapes and patterns of the ice capture my imagination.

Next week I head north to Fairbanks with marine mammal biologist Kristin Laidre where we’ll be presenting Imaging the Arctic for a Science Cafe, hosted by the Colors of Nature program and supported in part by the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The evening starts at 7pm, Thursday February 6th, at the Noel Wien library, come out and say hello if you’re in town!
