Home from the Grand Canyon

Down River from Forster Camp, February 13, 2011

I recently arrived home from the Grand Canyon after a fantastic trip with the Historic Boats Afloat expedition. Thanks to the wonderful team of folks I shared the experience with! It was my first time visiting the Canyon and the landscape was both sublime and overwhelming with its complexity and scale. I gradually grew more familiar with the palette and forms as I sketched and explored. The replica 1950s boats were also charming with their graceful forms and bright colors. I still have some unpacking to do, but here are some of my favorite sketches. If you’re in the Seattle area and would like to learn more about my time in the SW, as well as my Greenland Expedition last summer, I invite you to join me next Thursday, March 10th 6:30pm—7:30pm at the Greenwood Library for a presentation. I hope to see you there!
