Custom Wedding Rings

3

This past weekend I visited the Portland area and met up with my college friend Colin Kippen. Colin is a wonderful metalsmith who is making Darin and my wedding rings. He sent me home with a treat to share with Darin: the carved wax version of Darin’s ring. If Darin likes it and the ring fits (yes he does and yes it does) then Colin will use the wax ring to create a mold for casting a version in silver.

The carved and eroded faces of Colin’s rings are geologic and he encourages that they are worn and may continue to weather. He often gives them a patina to darken crevices and they appeal to my aesthetic for rock and ice. I’m excited for mine and the final versions! Check out more of Colin’s work (including his awesome hollowware) here.

Maria! Christopher and I have been in the wedding ring research phase for the past few weeks and I just remembered this post of yours! I really love the style of your friend Colin’s work and am wondering if he is currently in the market for some more custom projects. I would love to e-mail him and ask him some questions…do you have his contact info? It has been so hard finding someone whose work matches our vision! Thanks for sharing! Kate
